We now have some wonderful fresh comb honey. We had to go up a little on our price to compensate for an increase in production costs. But it is still worth every penny.

HOW TO MAIL ORDER THE SWEET STUFF

I have not traditionally shipped honey to customers. This stuff is heavy which makes it very cost prohibitive. However, a year or so ago the U.S. Postal Service introduced what they call a flat-rate box. This box is a “flat rate” anywhere in the United States and the rate is not affected by the weight of the contents. This box will fit 6 of our one pint jars. As a result I can offer our honey shipped to your door for 9.00/jar including shipping and packaging. As long as you order six. Shipping fewer jars is possible but the price will increase per jar.

Review the products page and make your choices, Click the contact or “ask the beekeeper” link up yonder and tell me what you would like. We don’t do plastic………yet, but we do have a paypal account and gladly accepts U.S. currecy, gold, Money Orders, and personal checks. After you email your order I will email a confirmation back with payment adress ect.

Summer at last

It’s been awhile since my last post, tis the way when the bees are taking up your time. Winter is better for writting, I think. The spring in Deming can only be described as miserable. The desert had not seen rain since early November and the wind and cool temps did nothing for any of the desert producing plants. We brought the bees up to Colorado and North New Mexico on April 29th in hopes that the Dandy Lions would help. However, the cold weather followed us and we didn’t have any sign of summer until about July 4th. At any rate we did not make any honey down South this year. Our honey supplies are good from last year and we shoulld have some new light clover in August along with FRESH COMB HONEY!!!

Taos Farmers Market

I have had many folks call asking why we have not been making consistant apperances at the farmers market. I can’t really go in to details but there were several political issues with the market and essentiallty bad management has caused the market take a huge step back. With rising fuel costs, and a slow economy it simply has not been possible to make the 90 mile drive from my home every weekend. I do plan on doing the market when the bees in Taos need tending. Which will be 2nd weekend in August and the first of September. Thanks to all of our customers who by our honey at Cids. We love making it if you love to eat it.

The Latest on Our Bees

The past year or so has been a very turbulant time for the bee industry. Largly in part the phenomenon called CCD. We unfortunatly had our share of losses. I try to maintain around 600 colonies of bees. That may sound like alot but compared to most “commercial” beekeepers, it is a rather small number. Out of those 600 we lost about 300 during the winter of 2006-2007. In the spring of 2007 we gained a little, but the bees were still not real healthy. This winter I had just over 400 going into winter of which there were about 325 survivors. We are getting ready to go to California now to pollenate almonds. Fall has Fell

Hello Eveyone,
Thanks for supporting us for one more year. To all of my Taos Farmers Market customers don’t worry too much about the politics of the market, I am sure we will get it figured out.
The bees are in Deming, New Mexico now. Getting ready to survive the winter.
All of the Honey we made this year is ready to be packed into jars and buckets. The crop was far below the normal amount. This was due to the bees trying to fight off their sickness and also due to odd weather conditions. But don’t worry we have plenty of honey for the year.
We sold our last case of New Mexico Wildflower 05 in September. As you know we keep all of our honey crops seperate and in doing so, once we are out of a particular year….it is gone forever. So if you have a jar, you may want to save it for special occasions.
We did make a new wildflower honey in Northern New Mexico this year. We are calling it Mountain Wildflower. It is a nice light honey with a touch of Sunflower/Wildflower flavor.

Question about the missing bees

news about honey bee populations
dying out. Has this been affecting
YOUR bees at all?

Hey Jaya,

Sorry for the delay in reply. With new sites come new problems
including checking emails. To answer your question, Yes, I lost about
half of my 600 colonies this winter to suspected “CCD”, which stands
for Colony Colapse Disorder. It is a very bizarre thing that really no
one has figured out yet. My normal winter losses are between 5 and
15%. 50% percent is very devistating. I personally don’t believe that
it is cell phones, or something we are doing to the bees directly. I
believe that is a combination of factors along with a new fungus,mold,
or perhaps a virus. The bees that are left seem to be doing well and I
just split the good ones last week and will check them again soon.
